St Marys Cray - On The Up PDF Print E-mail
Carole Wells is owner of the Croft Tea Rooms in St Marys Cray and has just recieved the Joe Ellis Tea Room Guide highly recommended certificate. Carole hopes her appearance in the guide will help to put the Crays on the map. In the News Shopper Mrs Wells said: “When I first talked about opening a tea room in St Mary Cray [people] threw their hands up and said why St Mary Cray and I thought ‘Why not?’ “Other places have really nice cafes and I thought ‘Why not in St Mary Cray?’” Here at Orpington Town we say good on ya!! We think that the Crays have a lot to offer people and we urge all our visitors to visit the Croft Tea Rooms - St Mary Cray.

Scabury Mannor open day

On the weekend of 12th and 13th September there was an open day at Scadbury Moated Manor House hosted by Orpington and District Archaeological Society (ODAS). It was great to see some of the work the group has done excavating and improving the area, and it was presented very well. There was a self guided trail to follow, a question sheet for kids and plaques with useful information at relevant points. There were also helpful members of the group at various points along the trail, with displays and information boards. The house has a long and interesting history and ODAS do a great job of helping visitors understand how the house would have developed and changed over time. The members of the group made the day excellent for all the family, they provided refreshments, baked cakes, provided locally grown veg, a book stall and even colouring in sheets for kids. It was a great day out for all the family and we look forward to next years event. ODAS are always looking for volunteers to help with their work, so if you are interested please visit their website through our links page.
